2010 TRAINING TIPS
Problem:
I have my dog Fetching, and holding the rubber dummy while heeling and doing the finish.  However, I attached string to my dummies, and he now wants to pick the dummy up by them.  I went back to the Fetch hold give, But he still wants to chew on the rope.
Solution:
He is wanting to play so BE FIRM when sayig NO-HOLD as you place the dummy in his mouth.....See the "Fetch Game" and do that strategy.....Making him come back to you...fast.....take the dummy as he comes to you....
This problem is just temporary.....
Start the day with throwing a dummy.....if he picks it up by the rope run away from him making him come to you. He'll probably pick up the dummy.
Every new step takes some time.....but you need to get him more interested in lines.....so start the sight blinds...Keep advancing him and everytime he doesn't pick up the dummy right - correct him.....
Good luck, Jean
RESULT:
I just wanted to let you know that it worked.  I have been doing the sight blind, and doubles.  I am also starting line drills.  I will now also introduce him to the gun.  Thanks so much for your help.  I would not have known what to do in all of these situations, since I have never trained a dog before.  I am reviewing the manual and video often, and gradually introducing the next steps.  I think I should start the handling exercises before too long, because I will have to work on the water marks and line drills in the warm weather months.
a follow up email states:
This is really exciting.  A few months ago, he wouldn't hold the dummy for even 5 seconds without dropping it or chewing on it.  Thanks for helping me get that resolved.  Thanks to all your help,  He does doubles, most of the time perfectly!

Thanks again for all your help, and for making an easy to understand training program.
